There are many amazing actors and actresses that are loved by audiences world over but three of the most prolific Broadway actors that come to mind when one thinks of Broadway are Mickey Rooney, Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon, Fosse-s former wife.
Gwen Verdon debuted in, Damn Yankee-s as far back as 1955. Marrying Fosse shortly after he discovered her, she also starred in such musicals on Broadway such as Sweet Charity and Chicago among so many other including Claudine. Ms. Verdon won her first tony for Claudine and her second tony for her performance in damn Yankees. Audiences have enjoyed hours of entertainment as a result of Gwen Verdon-s amazing dance skills and her wonderful voice.
Bob Fosse not only was an incredibly prolific actor starring in musicals such as Damn Yankees, Kiss me Kate. He was also an incredible choreographer of many Broadway shows and movies. Such works as All that Jazz, Sweet Charity, Pippin: His Life and Times and Cabaret. All That Jazz was a poignant look at his own life in which he starred as well as choreographing the entire show. He looks at the dark side of creativity and his own life and death in this piece which premiered Erzabet Foldi who played his real life daughter Nicole.
Jeremy Irons was another prolific actor and winner of the tony award for Broadway productions. Irons starred in a Impressionism, and Godspell as well as a very long run in Law and Order, the TV series.
Broadway actors must be not only proficient actors but stellar singers and dancers as well. These three are among the many hundreds who have dazzled us, made us laugh and cry through the years. Our hats should be off to them as they have provided us with rich entertainment throughout the years.
